Do academic journals count as primary sources?

Answer

If the article is reporting on original research, then a journal article would be considered primary source material.  

The fact that an article comes from a scholarly or peer-reviewed journal by itself does not constitue primary research.  To see more details on this question, please check out our handout on the subject:
